The Washington State Department of Health says it wants to make sure the people of Olympia are getting the best possible care.
On Wednesday, the department released a new report on the state’s orphanages and child care centers, which provide homes for children with autism.
The report found that the average cost of care for children diagnosed with autism is $1,000 to $1.25 per day.
The state Department of Human Services says it’s working with community and faith leaders to ensure all children with disabilities are getting a quality care experience.
The department says the report comes after a two-year campaign by the nonprofit organization, Autism Speaks, to raise awareness of the need for autism care in the state.
It says there’s been a decrease in children with ASD from 2000 to 2017.
