In December 2017, a social media post of a photograph of an elephant and a handwritten note appeared on Facebook.
The note claimed the animal was the only one of its kind.
The photo and note were taken at the orphanage in Pinnawally, Kilkenny.
The orphanage is owned by the Ballyshannon-based Bally Shire, and the note claims that the elephant was adopted there by the caretaker of the facility.
After being picked up from the orphanages, the elephant went on to be photographed in a zoo and exhibited for the world to see.
The image has since been shared more than 200,000 times.
It is estimated that up to a million elephants and more than 10,000 rhinos are killed each year in South Africa.
